Artist Statement :
As creatives, we are always challenged to have the vision to create something new, to see it before it manifests into a tangible form. Unlike God, who created the world from nothing, we often face the challenge of creating something from something else because we rely on working with materials, tools, or even our bodies. Very often, we are also challenged to create with a purpose in mind, to solve a problem, or to communicate a particular message.
For this series of photographs, we took a scrap piece of metal from a metal craftsman and challenged ourselves to portray it as something else. With no one to be accountable to report to, our studio embarked on a journey of discovery to create photographs without a plan or purpose. When there is no goal, there is no right or wrong, no success or failure. Experimentation is a luxury in a fast-paced world, a luxury of trial and error.
At work, in every business, and within our daily routines, we are all people who regularly create - deciding what to wear, creating a playlist, organizing a desk, etc. We hope this series of photographs resonate with some of you while suggesting a window of imagination to transcend the everyday subject, such as a mere piece of metal scrap - an abandoned failure, into something distinctively beyond what the world may define it to be.
